Exciting Shows Coming to the Planetarium

The W.A. Gayle Planetarium at Oak Park is excited to present an engaging lineup of shows. Visitors of all ages can experience breathtaking journeys through space and time with the following schedule.

Upcoming showings and schedule:

Every Saturday, January 3 - March 28, 2026

• 10am and 1pm: Accidental Astronauts

Show description: Follow the animated adventures of Cy and Annie and Cy’s dog Armstrong as they embark on an unexpected journey into space!

Explore the Earth, Sun and Moon system with a wise-cracking spaceship computer. Watch an asteroid crash into the Moon and see the results. Bounce along with them on the lunar surface. Get up close and personal with a solar storm.  Finally, after all the excitement of space, you also gain a new appreciation of our home planet.

The Accidental Astronauts is a space adventure for all ages.

Every Saturday, January 3 - March 28, 2026

• 11:30am and 2:30pm: Saturn: Jewel of the Heavens

Show description: Once a planet of great mystery, now we know more than ever before about its amazing system of rings, moons, and storms thanks to modern robotic space pioneers. This film not only incorporates the best imagery from the Cassini-Huygens mission, it uses photomaps of the moons to create 3-dimensional bodies complete with surface sculpting and height maps so the craters, canyons and mountains will show true surface relief.

From its bizarre moons with mysterious features, to the millions of icy particles that compose the enigmatic rings, this is the modern three-dimensional tour of the Saturnian system that goes beyond the CG experience – It’s like flying piggyback on the Cassini spacecraft.

Showings are available for public walk-ins on Saturdays only.

Tuesday through Friday showtimes are reserved for group reservations. To schedule a group visit, please contact the planetarium directly.

Doors open 20 minutes before each show, allowing guests time to explore the planetarium and gift shop.

                -- Admission is $7.50 per person for ages 3 and up.
                -- Children under 3 years of age are admitted FREE.
