Zoo Weekend

March 11-12, 2017

Post Date:03/01/2017 4:07 PM

The City of Montgomery and the Montgomery Area Zoological Society invite you to the 41st annual Zoo Weekend, Saturday, March 11, 2017 and Sunday, March 12, 2017 from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

The two-day event features a festival-style environment with live entertainment, rides, games, inflatables, animal presentations, and tasty treats. The family friendly event also features a rock climbing wall and the Jo Don Petting Zoo where guests can touch and feed animals as well as ride ponies and camels. Representatives from the City of Montgomery Fire and Police departments will be on site with a fire truck, rescue boat, and smokehouse tower for guests to view up close.

Fly high over the zoo on the Zoofari Skylift, an open air ride offering spectacular views of the entire 42 acre facility. Take a ride around the perimeter of the zoo on the miniature train or cruise around the lake in a pedal boat. Feed 18 foot tall giraffes at the Giraffe Encounter Post and walk among the flutter of wings in Parakeet Cove.

Started in 1976 to raise funds to support capital improvement projects, Zoo Weekend is a cherished tradition in the River Region. Throughout the years, proceeds from this event have supported the construction of new habitats for African elephants, American alligators, and North American river otters. The event also serves as a membership drive for the zoo with discounted annual membership rates that are too good to pass up.

Entertainment for Zoo Weekend will feature a variety of local acts, area dance groups, karate demonstrations, animal presentations from the Montgomery Zoo Education Department, and a special demonstration from the City of Montgomery Police Department K-9 Unit. Performances scheduled for the main events stage include Down to My Last, Johnson, Tatyana Webb, Jason Givens, and All You Need.

Major event sponsors are the City of Montgomery, Montgomery Area Zoological Society, McDonald’s, WCOV FOX 20, Cumulus Broadcasting (Mix 103.3, Y-102 101.9, WLWI 92.3, Fox 95.1), Alabama News Network, and the Montgomery Advertiser. Additional sponsors included game sponsors Guardian Credit Union and Institute for Total Eye Care, Inc. (ITEC), and Lion Keeper Talk sponsor Health Care Systems, Inc. Food will be available for purchase and is provided by Southern Foodservice Management.

Parking will be available at the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) located at 1400 Coliseum Blvd. Shuttle busses will be on site for the duration of the event to transport guests to and from the lot to the zoo entry.
