An applicant must:
- be at least 18years of age (No exceptions).
- be an education major
- make a 7 week commitment as an educational volunteer/intern.
- have at least 15 quarter or semester hours of college credits.
If selected he/she must:
- work all 7 summer camp weeks (weeks vary from full day (50 hour week) and half day (25 hour week.))
- be able to work with different age children ranging from 5 to 12.
- be able to work with Zooteens (high school counselors)
- adhere to all rules and regulations imposed by the zoo, Mann Museum and the department of education.
- be responsible for purchasing at least one short sleeve uniform shirt ($27.00)
and be responsible for having their name embroidered on all uniform shirts.
- be responsible for providing their own uniform pants and shorts while in
service, and following all dress codes.
- be responsible for providing their own transportation to and from the zoo.
- be responsible to providing their own housing during internship at the zoo.

- Applicant must complete this application in full.
- Applications are due Wednesday, May 16 by 4:00pm for the 2012 summer camp session, which begins on Monday, June 11th.
- Applicant must have their school send official transcripts to the Montgomery Zoo Department of
Education.
- Applicant must provide two academic references which must be submitted with application.
- Every part of the application is important, as the materials will be reviewed as a whole. The application and references will be screened by an advisory board made up of the Education Curator, Program Services Manger and Deputy Zoo Director.
- Interviews will be scheduled for those applicants who best meet the criteria listed previously in the
“Requirements” section.

Philosophy of Live Animal Use in Education Programs
It is the mission of the education department of the Montgomery Zoo to promote awareness, education, preservation, conservation and participation in wildlife and wildlife habitats throughout the world.
The zoo education department provides live animal educational programs and events to stress the importance of conserving wildlife and the habitats where wildlife resides as well as to help prevent the extinction of endangered species through education.
The zoo education department strives to increase interest in science and animal husbandry and to teach students responsibility and respect for our environment.
The zoo education department provides our community with a wide variety of educational resources and prides itself on being stewards of the environment.
The zoo education department’s mission is based on its commitment to deliver accurate information to the public and to promote an increased awareness of the natural world around us.
Important Notations
- This is NOT a paid internship. The internship offered by the Montgomery Zoo/Mann Museum is experience based only.
- Internship MUST be for full college credit with professor and/or institution approval.
-Camps are scheduled as full day camps and half day camps. Full day camps require a 50 hour work week while a half day camp requires a 25 hour work week. There are 3 full day camps and 4 half day camps. Lunch will be provided during full day camps.
